U.S. lawmakers from the state of Florida on both sides of the aisle shared their reactions to President Joe Biden’s (D) endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris (D) after he announced he would not seek reelection. A specific reason was not given for President Biden's departure, but his mental shortcomings and his poor polling numbers seem to be the main factors in the decision.

Republicans

“Kamala Harris is a California socialist, plain and simple. Floridians know all too well the threat of socialism, many coming here to escape dangerous regimes in Latin America. They aren’t going to stand by & allow Kamala to bring socialism to the US,” said Sen. Scott.

“Kamala Harris believes that illegal aliens crossing our southern border unlawfully should not be treated as CRIMINALS. This was Joe Biden’s ‘Border Czar’ for the past four years,” said Rep. Mast.

He also mentioned that she is “open to letting terrorists, convicted rapists, and murderers vote from behind bars.”

Representative Mike Waltz took a more abstract approach to the announcement of President Biden’s departure from the race.

“Saying the quiet part out loud. Pelosi, Obama, Schumer and a group of rich liberal elites just vetoed the votes of 14M Americans. Don’t EVER lecture people about ‘democracy’ again,” said Rep. Waltz.

Democrats

Joe Biden is once again showing true leadership by putting the country above all else. He has led one of the most historic presidencies of my lifetime: recovering from the pandemic, massive job growth, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, investing in infrastructure, increasing gun safety, caring for our veterans, and passing the most sweeping investments in our clean energy future. And now is an exciting time for him to pass the torch.

“There is a lot at stake in this election and I have full confidence in Vice President Harris. She is a fighter who stands up for reproductive freedoms, civil rights, lowering costs for families and lifting up all Americans. I look forward to working for her election and defeating Donald Trump,” said Rep. Castor.

Representative Jared Moskowitz kept it short and simple and even added a funny tweet after his initial endorsement of VP Harris.

I hereby endorse Kamala Harris! That’s the tweet,” said Rep. Moskowitz.

He added:

“What can be a [coconut] unburdened by what has been.”

Vice President Harris will look to secure the nomination at the Democratic National Convention in August.
