border wall
Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) have joined a letter demanding answers from the Department of Justice (DOJ) lack of action against fraudulent voter registration.
Dozens of lawmakers signed the letter alongside Senator Scott and Representative Gaetz.
The letter cites various reports of illegal aliens attempting to register to vote and the DOJ’s apparent failure to investigate such reports.
According to the letter, state officials in Ohio enhanced verification efforts after finding non-citizens registered to vote.
Similarly, Georgia election officers unveiled more than 1,600 voter registration attempts by non-citizens.
The letter’s authors explain the ongoing border crisis exacerbates the gravity of the fraudulent voter registration attempts, which some local governments have attempted to legitimize.
The authors claim it is “concerning given the record-shattering number of illegal aliens entering the United States and certain state and local laws that permit aliens to vote in local elections.”
However, as the lawmakers denounce, the DOJ has seemingly taken scant action in response to such reports.
“There appear to have been few prosecutions…and there is no indication that you have been pursuing cases in places like Georgia and Ohio where aliens have been caught registering or voting,” states the letter.
Last May, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Representative Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced legislation to ensure that only United States citizens can vote in U.S. elections.
Speaker Johnson’s bill would compel voters to demonstrate proof of citizenship prior to registering to vote.
When presenting the law, Johnson described American democracy as facing a “clear and present danger” that must be confronted prior to the November general elections.
