Frost Voices Support for Impeaching SCOTUS

Share

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) vowed to introduce articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court after ruling that former President Donald Trump was immune from prosecution for official acts. Representative Maxwell Frost (D-FL) voiced his support for the impeachment measure in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter).

"The Supreme Court and its recent decisions make clear that we have a right-wing, politically corrupt branch of government operating with no oversight. @RepAOC, my colleagues, and I believe Americans deserve a fair, impartial court- not justices who are bought and paid for by billionaires and special interests," said Rep. Frost.

The 6-3 decision was met with fierce hostility from progressives, who claimed that Trump was now above the law.

"Today's decision to grant former Presidents criminal immunity reshapes the institution of the Presidency. It makes a mockery of the principle, foundational to our Constitution and system of government, that no man is above the law. The relationship between the President and the people he serves has shifted irrevocably. In every use of official power, the President is now a king above the law," said Justice Sonya Sotomayor.

President Biden's campaign team released a statement after the ruling, claiming it "does not change the facts about January 6th."

Users on X wildly claimed that if Trump returned to office, he would be allowed to assassinate his political opponents without being prosecuted. As a result, some advocated for the Biden Administration to act first, saying they could theoretically assassinate Trump or cancel the upcoming 2024 Election in November without prosecution.

However, Justice John Roberts clarified in his opinion that the President is only immune from prosecution for "official" acts that the lower courts must define and can still stand trial for breaching his constitutional authority.

As a result, Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) dismissed the progressives' claims as " fearmongering" and noted that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez's articles of impeachment would go nowhere, as it takes a two-thirds Senate majority to remove a Justice.

"It is fearmongering by the Democrats. It is your typical ploy to try to make it all about Trump taking over and fearmongering the American people, and the American people are smarter than that. You have seen Trump's poll numbers increase dramatically after each one of these indictments, and it is because the American people see that Joe Biden has weaponized the court system and the [Department of Justice] to go after his political opponent. And finally, the Supreme Court has had a case that they have been able to reset the pendulum back to the law," said Rep. Steube.
