Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) spoke to The Floridian on Capitol Hill to discuss the Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris for skipping Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s joint session of Congress address. The Florida congressman did not mince words when describing his thoughts concerning the Vice President, saying the he boycott of the event was nothing less than "antisemitic."
“What she said to every Jewish member of our country is that the Democrat Party has a serious anti-Semitism problem. And it is a serious problem. For the leaders of the Democratic Party, who is now apparently Kamala Harris, to not be at a joint session while Benjamin Netanyahu is speaking to Congress, speaking to the American people, and for her to no-show him at the airport, to no-show him when he speaks at Capitol Hill? Apparently, there’s probably some side meeting they’re doing behind closed doors with no cameras? Do they value Jewish people in our country? Do they value Israel, or do they not? It appears to me that they do not,” said Rep. Donalds.
Furthermore, when asked if VP Harris not showing up to the joint session is anti-Semitic in and of itself, Rep. Donalds responded, “Yeah, I do.”
“He is the leader of Israel. Israel is under fire, they’re our ally. They didn’t just greet him, to shake hands? Listen, when Hurricane Ian hit my district, and Joe Biden and Jill Biden came to Southwest Florida, I greeted them at the tarmac. And everybody knows I do not agree with Joe Biden on anything. But the President of the United States came to my district that had just been wiped out by a massive hurricane. I was at the airport to greet him.
“Israel is under attack and they can’t greet Benjamin Netanyahu? It is so disrespectful,” concluded Rep. Donalds.
Additionally, when asked about the possibility of Kamala Harris flipping Florida blue with new energy and a large amount of funds in her campaign, Donalds said the Sunshine State will stay red.
“Florida’s going to be just fine. Do I acknowledge – yes, she is female. I’m glad the Democrats now know what a woman is which is interesting to see. But she is female. I think she’s of Black and Indian descent. Cool,” said Rep. Donalds concerning VP Harris. “But in 2024 we want to make sure that our leaders can actually do the job. And all of your other intersectional qualities aren’t important. We’re talking about gas prices, food prices, border security, foreign policy, and all the real issues facing our country.”
The general election for President of the United States will take place on November 5.
