Congressional Pushback Against New Biden ‘EV’ Rules Continues

Share

A group of over 150 conservative Congressional lawmakers have rejected President Joe Biden’s recently published Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles – Phase 3.

The rules, published last April, target greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from large trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.

According to the rules, such vehicles must dramatically reduce their GHG emissions by fiscal year 2032.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is leading this effort, and projects the rules’ proper administration could grow the number of American EVs on the road.

However, conservative lawmakers are claiming the initiative is unnecessary and disincentivizing natural technological development while suffocating American businesses.

US Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Mike Crapo (R-ID), and dozens of other legislators wrote a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging a halt of its “de facto electric mandate on trucks, tractors, buses and semis.”

The letter underscores the hefty price-tag for enforcing such rules: 1.4 trillion.

Additionally, the writers further ridicule the push for EVs by signaling their inferiority in quality and cost to internal combustion engine trucks.

The impact of the rules on the economy and small businesses were also referenced.

“Not only would this rule harm consumers, but it would also exacerbate consolidation by effectively forcing our small trucking companies out of business,” reads the letter. Such companies”…cannot afford this hasty transition to electric or hydrogen powered trucks.”

Last March, a similar group of conservative lawmakers joined to criticize President Biden’s announced energy tax hike.

On March 11, 2024, the US Treasury Department unveiled itsGeneral Explanations of the Administration's Fiscal Year 2025 Revenue Proposals (Green Book).

According to Senator Scott’s office, the Green Book proposes  $110 billion in target tax increases on the production of oil, gas, and coal.
