Bipartisan Senate Support for Argentina Jewish Massacre Victims in 30 Year Anniversary

Share

Democrat and Republican Senators have united to commemorate the thirty year anniversary of tragic car bomb terrorist attacks on July 18, 1994, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The terror attacks were aimed at the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association (AMIA) Jewish Community Center, killing 85 and wounding more than 300 people.

The attacks remain the deadliest terror incidents in Argentina’s history.

U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Ben Cardin (D-MD) introduced a bipartisan resolution promising to deliver justice for the victims of the attacks.

Senator Rubio, who visited the AMIA museum earlier this year, reiterated his commitment to defending the Jewish community both at home and abroad.

“Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to visit the AMIA museum and witnessed firsthand the tenacity of Argentina’s vibrant Jewish community,” said Rubio. “Our commitment to justice and accountability remains firm.”

The resolution comes at the heels of growing antisemitic sentiment across the US and the globe.

As reported by the Anti-Defamation League, antisemitic behavior increased 488% in the first 18 hours after Hamas’ terror attacks on October 7, 2023.

Since then, countless anti-Semitic incidents have been reported, least of which were the dozens of anti-Israel demonstrations across America’s college campuses.

Last April, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and others backed a bill aiming to counter such antisemitic incidents.

Senator Cardin spoke of the dire need to combat antisemitism while presenting his AMIA resolution.

“We are faced with the tragic reality that antisemitism is on the rise at an alarming pace around the world,” commented Cardin. “As I lead the Congressional delegation later this month to the commemoration of the AMIA attacks, I will reiterate the solemn duty we share to condemn with our words and our deeds all acts of hate and antisemitism wherever and whenever they happen.”
