What Didn't Make the Cut? DeSantis' 16 Page Veto List

TALLAHASSEE, FL—Governor Ron DeSantis signed the 2024-2025 budget totaling $116.5 billion Wednesday afternoon, and with it sent out his 16-page list of projects amounting to almost $1 billion that didn't cut it.

According to the official document, DeSantis is removing $949,611,399 in budget items, $766,287,757 of which is general revenue while the remainder is trust dollars, ABC Action News reported. He explained that the vetoes were necessary to "hold the line" in an era of inflation, explaining that some—such as water management projects—are already covered under other budget items.

Here are some of the largest strikes to this year's budget:

• New Worlds Tutoring Program -- $30 million
• Lump Sum - Legislative Support Services - Senate -- $28 million
• Lump Sum - Legislative Support Services - House -- $28 million
• University of West Florida - Science and Engineering Research Wing - Phase II -- $26.2 million
• Special Categories - Grants And Aids - Cultural And Museum Grants -- $26 million
• Pensacola State College - Training Center-Pensacola -- $13.4 million
• Hendry County Port LaBelle Utility System Wastewater Treatment Plan Expansion -- $12.7 million
• Grants And Aids To Local Governments And Nonstate Entities - Fixed Capital Outlay - Florida State Fair Authority -- $12 million
• District 23 Medical Examiner’s Office -- $11.7 million
• FGCU -Reed Hall Renovations -- $11.6 million
• Flagler County Septic to Sewer Conversions and Water Treatment Expansion -- $10.1 million
• Crystal River Government Center Phase 2 -- $10 million
• St. Johns Central Public Safety Station -- $7.5 million
• Santa Fe College -- Property Acquisition -- $6.5 million
• Menstrual Hygiene Products Grant Program -- $6.4 million
