On June 27th, President Donald Trump (R) and President Joe Biden (D) will go head-to-head on the debate stage. How the outcome of that debate will determine the trajectory of each candidate, nobody knows. Polls indicate that President Trump is making significant strides in overtaking the election, which could result in a "historic performance." Florida Rep. Byron Donalds (R), a staunch supporter of the former president, continues to affirm that the "historic performance" will include gains in Black voters supporting President Trump.
On social media, Rep. Donalds shared a CNN segment that was analyzing an aggregate of polls regarding the upcoming presidential election. Support among Black voters has gone down for President Biden, sinking from 86% in 2020 to 71% in 2024. For President Trump however support has gone up from 7% in 2020 to 21% in 2024.
"It's not just that Joe Biden is losing ground, it's that Donald Trump is gaining ground," the reporter states. While some Democrats might scratch their heads at the notion, Republicans like Rep. Donalds are not surprised, arguing that the country was in a much better direction under the former president's guidance.
According to the CNN segment, President Biden is down 43 points with Black voters under 50, he's down 16 points with black voters, and President Trump is up 14 points with Black voters. When you factor in Robert F. Kennedy, Jr's (I) candidacy, the incumbent president "attracts LESS THAN HALF of Black voters."
In response to the findings, the CNN reporter posits that "we're careening towards a historic performance... the likes we have not seen in 6 decades."
On June 27th, both candidates will debate for 90 minutes. Their microphones will be muted unless they're designated to speak, and a coin toss will determine the podium they will each stand behind. CNN has also announced that the candidates will not be able to use props or pre-written notes, but paper, pen, and water will be provided.
