Florida Democrats Invite Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett to Campaign in Sunshine State

MIAMI, FL—Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a young, black Texas Congresswoman, has been heralded as the "campaign surrogate Biden needs," citing her progressive policies and bold approach to her far-right colleagues, and Florida Democrats believe her energy in an ever-reddening Sunshine State would speak volumes ahead of the November elections.

Monday morning, Florida Democrats hosted a conference call with Rep. Crockett's team, curious if the first-term Congresswoman would be interested in serving as a Biden surrogate in Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward Counties this summer, preferably around the Broward Democratic Party Open House Convention on July 20th—the first-ever county convention.

"We talked to her team, and she's interested, but it's just an invite: it's still in the pitch process," said Nikki Barnes, a campaign staffer and Democratic National Committee alum. She explained that the dates and times of Crockett's arrival still had to be fleshed out, as they are heavily dependent on the Biden advocate's busy schedule.

"Whenever she can do it...we'd love to have her," Barnes added.

Of the three traditionally blue South Florida counties Crockett may visit, only Broward voted against Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2022 gubernatorial election, and since then, Republicans have increased their statewide voter registration lead by over half a million more voters.

In Palm Beach, some Democrats blamed county-wide leadership for the failure to stay blue.

This rapidly growing Republican stranglehold over the once-purple state has led Florida Democrats to Rep. Crockett, the progressive Congresswoman who made headlines after she took on Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for suggesting that the Texas Democrat's "fake eyelashes" were getting in the way of her understanding a hearing.

In response, Crockett called out Greene's "bleach-blonde, bad built, butch body."

Rep. Crockett's team nor Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried's team responded to a request for comment.
