US Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) has claimed president Joe Biden and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Officials knowingly granted Cuban agents access to Miami International Airport’s (MIA) security infrastructure.
The announcement follows a controversial visit by Cuban officials to MIA.
As The Floridian’s Javier Manjarres explained, a cohort of Cuban government officials were given an exclusive tour of TSA’s MIA security facilities late last week.
Representative Gimenez, who hosted a press conference to announce he would lead an investigation into the matter, subsequently directly accused President Biden of the occurrence via X.
“President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas granted agents of the Castro regime access to sensitive TSA facilities at Miami International Airport,” said Gimenez.
Florida legislators have pushed back against the visit in a bipartisan manner.
US Representative Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) was one of various Democrat legislators appalled by Cuban agents’ presence within TSA security facilities.
While speaking to Manjarres, Representative Schultz claimed she had reached out to the Biden administration for clarification on what “security measures were taken to protect the integrity of our Homeland Security protocols.”
According to a press release published by Gimenez earlier last week, in 2023 he filed legislation to prohibit government-sanctioned visits by officials from state sponsors of terrorism.
The legislation was engineered to prevent military cooperation between the US and such states.
Gimenez claimed he would be submitting novel legislation to address situations similar to those recently lived at MIA.
“After the Coast Guard hosted Castro regime agents in 2023, I introduced legislation with Senator Marco Rubio that prohibits these type of exchanges with State Sponsors of Terrorism and the measure was successfully adopted in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA),” said Gimenez. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to introduce similar legislation to prohibit these actions from occurring once again.”
