Florida’s Rick Scott Tours State Urging Residents to Prepare for Hurricane Season

Share

US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) has been traveling throughout the state to remind Floridians of the need to adequately prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.

Senator Scott’s latest stop was Hialeah, where he hosted a press conference to explain to businesses and residents the importance of taking Hurricane precautionary measures.

Such measures include making a disaster preparedness plan, creating disaster supply kits, and stocking up on essential non-perishable goods.

Florida’s state government has enacted a sales-tax holiday on all hurricane supplies from June 1st through June 14th.

Scott encouraged Floridians to take advantage of the cost-saving opportunity and purchase Hurricane supplies then.

Sales tax-exempt items include portable generators, flashlights, batteries, coolers, and similar items.

“We never want to see a disaster hit, but now is a great opportunity for you and your family to stock your disaster supply kits with vital supplies like a first aid kit, a radio, flashlights, batteries, and other necessities—and you can buy hurricane supplies sales-tax-free from June 1st through June 14th, so take advantage of that,” said Scott.

The last major Hurricane to strike Florida was Idalia in 2023. According to National Hurricane Center figures, Idalia killed 12 individuals and caused an estimated $3.6 billion in damages.

Scott emphasized the tragedy of the human cost that can be borne by unprepared Florida residents if caught in a major storm.

“As I always say, you can rebuild your home, but you can’t rebuild your life,” continued Scott. “Don’t put your family and loved ones at risk. Don’t wait to take action. Get prepared today.”
