'Border Czar' Kamala Harris: GOP Chairman Blasts Harris Ahead of Her Florida Visit

Share

JACKSONVILLE, FL—Florida GOP Chair Evan Power mockingly called Vice President Kamala Harris a "border czar" ahead of her appearance in Jacksonville this Wednesday, redirecting attention away from her scheduled abortion discussion and toward what he sees as the Biden Administration's failed immigration policies.

One week after President Biden visited Tampa, Kamala Harris will stop in Jacksonville this Wednesday, intent on discussing Florida's "extremist" six-week abortion ban that goes into effect the same day—May 1st.

GOP Chairman Power, however, chose instead to point out immigration issues under the Biden Administration ahead of her arrival, citing Georgia woman Laken Riley who was killed by an illegal immigrant as an example of the Administration's "border lawlessness".

"Chairman Evan Power and the Florida GOP welcome Kamala Harris to Florida where Bidenomics is hurting families and your failure as border czar makes every American less safe," the statement begins, referring to a rising national inflation rate, an over one trillion dollar deficit, and a spike in illegal border crossings at the end of 2023.

"The open border lawlessness of the Biden Bloodbath has made all states - including Florida - a border state. As Biden’s 'border czar,' the nation’s borders have become a crisis," Power continued, before calling on Harris to apologize to the family of murdered college student Laken Riley.

"Just north of Jacksonville, in Georgia, the family of Laken Riley has to live with these tragic failures. Maybe while on the ground, Vice President Harris can drive north a bit and ask Laken’s family to forgive the deadly mistake she and Biden have made," he said, blaming the administration for her death.

Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student who was murdered while jogging on her University of Georgia campus. Her killer, a Venezuelan named Jose Antonio Ibarra, had been granted parole due to overcrowding at a detention center in El Paso, Texas in 2022. Two years later, he murdered Riley.
