Bean Denounces Biden's 'Unfair' Student Loan Forgiveness

WASHINGTON—President Joe Biden recently canceled another $7.7 billion in student loans for 160,000 borrowers, bringing the total forgiven to $167 billion. Representative Aaron Bean (R-FL) denounced the erasure of debt in a recent interview with The Floridian, calling it "unfair" and an attempt "to win over young people."

Notably, the White House moved forward on forgiving an additional $7.7 billion in student loan debt "after being rebuked by Congress, saying 'you do not have the authority to forgive student loan debt; it is not your money, Joe Biden."

As Rep. Bean pointed out, the opposition to Biden's student loan forgiveness plan was bicameral and bipartisan, and "that brought Congress together. Republicans, Democrats, Senators, and House members all sent that [message] to his desk. 'You do not have that authority.' But wait, there is more: The Supreme Court has come out and said, 'Joe Biden, you do not have this ability.' But this week, he did it again."

The rationale, Rep. Bean suspected, was because "[Biden] is trying to win over young people, because the way they are notified is a personal note from him. They put a letter which has his signature, 'Hey, Uncle Joe just forgave your debt. Remember me in November, wink wink."

Moreover, Bean noted that the Biden Administration's unilateral decision in spite of unified opposition from Congress and the Supreme Court only makes the allegations of former President Donald Trump becoming a dictator if he returns to the White House after the November election ring hollow.

"Let us look [at] what a real dictator is: to give the finger to have done that, but give the finger to Congress, give the finger to the Supreme Court, and continue to give away money that we do not have. We know it is going to add to inflation. Basically, it is unfair," Bean continued.

Not only is the loan forgiveness unfair to taxpayers, but according to Bean, it also "teaches colleges that it is okay to give away degrees that do not matter or produce anything in society, and they continue to have the highest costs, the highest rise of any cost, of any type of activity in our economy is colleges."

As a result, Bean said he is co-sponsoring Representative Virginia Foxx's (R-NC) College Cost Reduction Act (HR 6951), which would "hold schools accountable" by forcing them to pay off student loans if the borrower cannot pay them off themselves.
