61 Democrats Vote Against Condemning Violence Against Police

Share

WASHINGTON— As Police Week, wrapped up in the nation’s capital, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted on and passed a legislative measure (H.R. 1213) to condemn violence against police or law enforcement, and progressive calls to “defund the police.”

The bill passed on a bipartisan level with 337 Republicans and 134 Democrats voting in favor of the resolution, but 61 lawmakers voted against the measure, including the lone Florida congressman, Rep. Maxwell Frost (D).

Reps. Carlos Gimenez (R), Vern Buchanan (R), and Frederica Wilson (D), did not vote.

Moments after the vote, The Floridian spoke to Democrat Rep. Jared Moskowitz about how he voted.

Rep. Moskowitz said he voted in favor of the resolution, stating,” I don’t support defunding the police.”

Republican Rep. Cory Mills also voted ‘Yes’ and cast shade on the House Democrats who voted against the measure.

"These are the same individuals who are all about defunding, not defending our law enforcement,” said Rep. Mills. “Our party comes together and stands with and stands behind our law enforcement and we always will.”

As expected, the Progressive “Squad” in the House voted against the pro-Police resolution.
