Waltz Blasts Hur, Garland for Protecting Biden in Classified Documents Scandal

Share

Attorney General Merrick Garland was expected to hand over documents related to President Biden's keeping of classified documents Monday at noon or face contempt of Congress charges from House Republicans. Ahead of the deadline, Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on Fox and Friends First to discuss the scandal, blasting Special Counsel Robert Hur for not charging Biden when such charges were justified and attacking Garland for protecting the President.

Rep. Waltz predicted the Attorney General would not comply with the GOP's demand for the audio recordings and transcripts of Hur's interviews with Biden, where "[Biden] repeatedly and openly admitted that he had classified documents in his basement, that he had boxes of them in his transcript to his ghostwriter and conversations with his ghostwriter, and that is what the committee is asking for."

Additionally, Rep. Waltz reiterated that former President Donald Trump "was covered by under the Presidential Records Act, Biden took these documents as a Senator and Vice President. He was not covered," referencing Trump's legal troubles about classified information supposedly kept without clearance.

"But at the end of the day, I think this Department of Justice has shown that there [are] two tiers of justice. They will protect this White House no matter what, even at the credibility of our justice system, which has completely tanked with the American people," Waltz continued, echoing comments made earlier in March regarding the various legal troubles surrounding Trump.

Moreover, he pointed out the nature of Biden's discussions with his ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer, where he seemed to willfully share classified information with him despite knowing he should not.

In mid-March, Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) similarly argued about Biden's intent to share classified information with Zwonitzer. The Arizona Congressman suggested that Biden had difficulty reading handwritten notes and asked Zwonitzer to read them, despite knowing it could contain information the ghostwriter did not possess the security clearance to view.

Nevertheless, Special Counsel Hur declined to charge the President because he is "a well-meaning elderly man with poor memory."

Concluding the Fox appearance, Waltz pointed out the glaring double standard: "Either he is fit to be President, and if he is, then he is fit to be prosecuted, or if he is not fit to be prosecuted, how the hell can you be President for another five years?"

Finally, as the Florida Congressman predicted, Garland did not turn over the transcripts and audio of Hur's interviews with Biden and Zwonitzer that the House GOP requested.
