Scott: The Evidence is 'Overwhelming' Against DHS Secretary Mayorkas

Share

Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) spoke to The Floridian this week to discuss Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ impeachment. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has delayed the trial by deciding to send the articles of impeachment next week instead of sending them Wednesday.

Sen. Scott provided what he believes to be ample evidence that this process is valid and worthwhile.

“Think about it. 70,000 people dying of fentanyl overdose. We got terrorists in our country. We got criminals in our country, crime rates up. In every neighborhood in this country, the crime’s gotten dangerous. People are worried now about the safety of our country. We’ve got terrorist cells, the director of the FBI said we got terrorist cells all across our country. It’s a big deal,” said Sen. Scott.

When asked about President Joe Biden possibly coming back to reach across the aisle and use executive action to address the border crisis. Sen. Scott said it’s par for the course as it is an election year.

“Well, of course. It’s an election year,” said Scott. “Democrats are worried about the border. So, I think they’d like Biden to secure the border and make their lives easier.”

Furthermore, the Florida senator was asked about the possibility of the military being sent to corral the cartels surrounding the southern border. He answered that the U.S. military would have to help seal the border “at some point” but didn’t address the cartels.

“The only way we’d get our border secure is at some point we’d have to send our military down there to secure the border. I mean, this is a clear and present danger to the safety of each and every American,” said Scott.

Finally, Sen. Scott stated that a thorough trial for Secretary Mayorkas is necessary.

“We need to have a trial,” said Scott. “How can you know until you present all the evidence and you have a real trial? What Schumer wants to do is not have a trial, because the evidence will be overwhelming against what Biden and Mayorkas have done.”

When asked if he believes any Democrats would vote with Republicans against the Homeland Security Secretary in the trial, Sen. Scott said “I would hope every Democrat would.”

Additionally, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) provided comment on the Mayorkas impeachment trial and applauded Speaker Johnson’s decision to delay the proceedings.

“I’m very glad the Speaker is delaying sending the impeachment documents over. I and several other senators asked him to delay it because Schumer wanted to have this entire proceeding on Thursday afternoon and senators were leaving town. I think it is much better to take it up at the beginning of the week, to give it the time that the issue merits and that the Constitution requires,” said Sen. Cruz.

This is a developing story.
