The recent wave of antisemitism in America, particularly in the pro-Palestine protests on college campuses throughout the country, may not have developed organically in response to the Israel-Hamas war. Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) suggested this could be the case in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, saying Congress should look into where the money for these protests is coming from.
Rep. Mills began by reiterating that "there is a fine line to walk with ensuring that everyone has the right to free, nonviolent protesting and being able to have their voice heard, and what you are seeing where there is intimidation, they are stopping Jewish students from being able to even attend their classes."
Notably, Columbia University rabbi Elie Beuchler told Jewish students to stay home amidst the protests on the campus, and Columbia staff moved to remote classes in their wake.
As a result, Rep. Mills not only implored the staff of these universities to more firmly state their opposition to antisemitism but said Congress should consider investigating who is behind these protests.
"I think it is time for Congress to start investigating. Where is the money and where is the actual non-influence operations being led from? What is the foreign entity that is potentially behind many of these? I think that is something that needs to be seriously taken in and looked at," said Mills.
Late last week, Israeli Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli similarly warned that foreign actors played a potential role in fomenting the antisemitic frenzy on American college campuses, most likely the Muslim Brotherhood, which he said was behind organizations such as Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
Moreover, he suggested the group is allying with the American "woke" movement in turning the country's opinion against Israel.
"What is common for both movements, the Muslim Brotherhood and the woke, both of them are totalitarian movements. Their enemy is freedom of speech. Their enemy is the freedom of belief. Their enemy is not just the Jewish State of Israel; they are enemies of the Jewish people. They are an enemy of Western civilization and Judeo-Christian civilization. And this is very, very important, and we are in a very delicate moment," said Chikli.
