Argentina President Javier Milei gave an economics lecture at Florida International University in Miami on Thursday, April 10th.

An economics professor, President Milei is known as a relentless advocate for laissez-faire economics, limited government, and conservative values.

Milei’s lecture, which lasted for nearly one and a half hours, claimed liberalism and free markets are optimal for economic growth and human flourishing.

Milei also criticized the various socialist-progressive governments in the Americas and surrounding regions, claiming government interventions have always resulted in worse outcomes.

The lecture was given in Spanish, which was no problem for Milei given South Florida’s majority spanish-speaking population.

Commenting on the work of economic theorists such as Milton Friedman, Robert Malthus, and Adam Smith, Milei vehemently promoted economic structures grounded on free markets and capitalism.

“We Argentines have matured and learned that easy solutions do not work, and that the only path is that of Freedom," said Milei.

The lecture was made possible by a series of sponsors and FIU’s Adam Smith Center, a ‘think-and-do’ tank.

The Adam Smith Center, established by the Florida Legislature, made national headlines when announcing an impressive set of new Senior Fellows.  The staggering list included United States ambassadors as well as former Presidents of South American nations.

Milei, who arrived to the US on April 10th, has also met Argentinian leaders and Inter-American Development Bank officials during his time in Miami.

On April 12th, Milei is scheduled to meet Tesla’s Elon Musk in a highly anticipated encounter.

Last February, US Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) met with Milei during a trip aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties among the US and Argentina.

Senator Rubio commended President Milei’s bold economic resurgence plans for Argentina, a nation whose economy has been battered by previous left-wing governments
