DeSantis Sues Biden Administration For Applying Title IX to Trans Students

TAMPA, FL—Governor Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida join five Republican-led states in suing the Biden Administration for altering a civil rights law to extend protections against sex discrimination to transgender people.

Earlier this week, the Biden Administration revised Title IX, a sweeping civil rights law that bans sex-based discrimination in education institutions, to also apply to transgender students.

Since then, six states have filed suit against the Administration to block the new rules.

"The bottom line is this: injecting men into women's bathrooms and locker rooms is not good for women, and injecting boys into girls' sports is not good for girls," DeSantis said Tuesday at a Tampa press conference, announcing Florida to be the latest state to file suit.

"This is bad policy and it's not constitutional—that is not what the law says, they are twisting the law to try to impose an ideological agenda on the rest of the country,"

"In Florida, we do not consent to that, we will not comply with it, and we will fight back against it," he added, referencing that in 2021, the state banned transgender-identifying girls from participating in girls' sports.

The Biden Administration sought to extend a 2020 U.S. Supreme Court decision barring employment discrimination for gay and transgender workers as a basis for its new version of Title IX, angering Republican-led states.

Florida joins Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, and Idaho in their separate suits against Biden's updated Title IX rules. It is expected that Oklahoma will soon file suit as well.
