Scott Drafts Senate Resolution Proposing Measures to Secure Southern Border

Share

US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) filed a resolution outlining policy measures President Joe Biden could adopt to manage the ongoing crisis at the southern border.

A sister resolution was filed and passed in the  House of Representatives by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (R-TX).

Senator Scott’s resolution denounces how over 9 million illegal immigrants have attempted to unlawfully enter the US under the Biden administration.

The resolution also claims the White House has enabled over 6 million illegal immigrants to enter the US.

According to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), over 1 million immigrants have been identified attempting to illegally enter the US in 2024 alone.

The majority of immigrants identified have been single adults.

Scott’s resolution lists several policy solutions Biden could implement to ameliorate the migratory crisis.

Among these are reactivating abandoned asylum cooperative agreements with neighboring Latin American states, increasing apprehensions and deportations at the border, expanding expedited removals, and ending catch and release.

“President Biden used executive power to open the border and has the authority to close and secure the border but is purposefully failing to do so,” stated Scott while  announcing his resolution.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), a cosponsor of the bill, warned the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) director recently “confirmed a human smuggling network exists at our southern border.”

Senator Rubio underscored the grave threat posed by such a network, adding that “the Biden Administration is allowing terrorists into our country.”

In November 2023, (FBI) Director Christopher Wray warned of the national security threat posed by illegal immigration.

Director Wray stated the rising number of individuals on the terrorist watchlist apprehended whilst crossing the Southwest border was of “great concern”.

The ISIS-K terrorist attack executed over the weekend in Moscow, Russia has heightened conservatives’ concern over the security liability posed by a porous southern border.

“If ISIS is attacking in Russia, they can attack here,” said Scott.
