Netanyahu Backtracks on Statements After Scott Visit as Biden Drops More Aid into Gaza

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is reportedly seeking to reschedule a meeting between Israel and US diplomats hours after explaining to US Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) why he had originally canceled the meeting. 

While meeting with Senator Scott, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated the meeting was canceled due to President Biden allowing the United Nations Security council to approve a ceasefire resolution failing to condemn Hamas.

The meeting was supposed to feature US-Israel discussions over the latter’s intention to invade Rafah, a densely populated Hamas stronghold.

 Netanyahu described his decision to cancel was intended to send “a message to Hamas: Don't bet on this pressure, it's not going to work.”

However, Israeli media recently reported Netanyahu is seemingly attempting to reschedule the diplomatic meeting. 

It remains unclear what prompted Netanyahu’s change of heart.

An official date for the new meeting has yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, intra-administration policy disputes have resulted in State Department resignations. 

Yesterday, State Department Annelle Sheline publicly resigned from the State department after accusing Biden of not taking sufficient retaliatory measures against Israel.

Sheline alleged that, by supporting Israel, the Biden administration “enables” what she claimed “could plausible be a genocide in Gaza.”

Beside slowing down aid for Israel, Biden’s administration has sanctioned certain Israeli individuals and companies and warned of additional “consequences” if Israel executes their planned invasion of Rafah.

The Biden administration has justified its threats of additional retaliatory measures against Israel’s invasion of Rafah by claiming the operation amounts to a death sentence for civilian refugees.

Simultaneously, US Central Command (CENTCOM) air-dropped loads of humanitarian assistance in Northern Gaza on Friday, March 29th. 

Two US C-17 Air Force aircraft dropped over 46,000 meal equivalents into regions of Gaza CENTCOM described as “areas of great need.”
