Giménez says Reversion to Remain in Mexico Would Solve '70% of the Problem' at the Border

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Carlos Giménez (R-FL) spoke with The Floridian to discuss Democrats being open to reinstating the “Remain in Mexico” policy as well as President Biden’s State of the Union address, just hours away.

When asked about the receptiveness of Democrats on the Trump immigration policy, Rep. Giménez said that “probably 70% of the problem” at the border could be fixed with the measure.

“I think that we should reinstitute the Remain in Mexico policy and probably take care of 70% of the problem down at the border,” said Rep. Giménez. “I’m glad some Democrats came to our way of thinking, but we told President Biden the first day he overturned the Remain in Mexico policy, we told him he’s going to have disastrous effects and sure enough it’s had disastrous effects.”

Concerning the State of the Union, Giménez answered whether President Biden will attempt to unite the country during his primetime speech.

“No. President Biden said in his Inaugural Address that he was going to try to unite the country and on his first day, all he did was divide the country. He’s been doing that ever since,” said Rep. Giménez. “You know, when you call 97 million people – ‘We’re terrorists, we’re insurrectionists, not real Americans,’ I don’t think that goes very far in trying to unite the country.

“I always say this about President Biden: never listen to what he says. Watch what he does, and everything he’s done is trying to divide this country,” said the Florida congressman.

Finally, when given an over-under of an hour and a half regarding the length of President Biden’s speech.

He responded, “Way under. Way, way, under. I should be surprised if he goes – an hour and a half? – I would be the most surprised if he did that. Way under.”
