Florida Congressional Lawmakers Endorse Sen. Scott, Dress Down Progressive Opponent

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Florida’s Republican Congressional Caucus stood alongside Senator Rick Scott in support of his Senate reelection bid against former Democrat Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D).

The theme of the event was that Republicans were a “team” and united to win back the majority in the U.S. Senate and to retain the slim majority Republicans hold in the House of Representatives.

“We are a Team. If we all win all of these House races, we win the Senate race,” said Senator Scott in his opening remarks. I going to do everything I can to help them win their races. It’s a team sport.”

Outside of praising Sen. Scott’s work ethic and past accomplishments as governor of Florida, Republican lawmakers took the opportunity to frame Sen. Scott's Democratic opponent as an extreme progressive or radical, who supports socialism and was part of the House “Squad” during her only term in Congress.

“How Ironic it would be if a state like Florida, the place that people have gone to run away from socialism in Venezuela, in Cuba, in Nicaragua, in California, in New York, to somehow elect someone who one of the first things she did when she got up to Congress was join The Squad,” said Sen. Rubio. “She wanted to be member of the insane people who hate America, and want to destroy or redefine it, she tried to join that group.”

Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart echoed Sen. Rubio, calling Scott a “straight shooter” and explain how Mucarsel-Powell “was rejected by the voters once they saw her record.”

Rep. Kat Cammack didn’t necessarily pile on “DMP,” rather focused on how important it was to reelect Scott simple because of how important it was to address agriculture during the upcoming Farm Bill.

"All of us here represent a state that is a massive agricultural state, we have a number two economic driver of agriculture in the state and we have a very critical farm bill we have to advance this year and we are going to get it done,” said Rep. Cammack. “He is boots on the ground, sleeves rolled up, Ready to get to work. He deserves and has earned another six years as one of the best damn senators in the nation.”

"The most basic and important thing for Floridians was to provide economic opportunity and jobs. He was committed to that throughout his tenure as governor, and he has brought that same sentiment to Washington,” said Rep. Laurel Lee

Rep. Gaetz added that the current state of  Florida’s economy is due to the policies that then-Governor Scott put in place, crediting him with a massive job creation effort during his two terms in office.

Scott’s “Let’s Get to Work” and 7-7-7 jobs initiatives were extremely successful, and have helped Gov. Ron DeSantis make great strides during his first term in office.

“If you have a tourism job in Florida right now, its likely because Governor Scott was the very first governor to say we are going to have a 100 million visitors to the state to drive our economy,” added Rep. Gaetz

In typical Gaetz fashion, the popular congressman from Florida’s Panhandle, tore into Mucarsel-Powell allegedly support for an open borders policy and opposition to law enforcement.

Gaetz served alongside Mucarsel-Powell on the House Judiciary Committee.

“She was for every open borders policy the Democrats could think of. She wanted more entitlements for illegal aliens. She wanted more giveaways for illegal aliens. Her vision for the country is to have more illegal aliens here,” said Gaetz. “She was also terrible for police. She was for every Democrat proposal to strip the immunities away from our police and to make pro-active policing more difficult for Florida’s law enforcement, and she also braced the policies of socialism that so many Floridians have been fleeing.”

During the the question and answer segment of the event, Scott was asked how Mucarsel-Powell’s candidacy reflected on teh current state of the Democratic Party.

“They are a bunch of liberals. They support open borders. They don’t care about jobs. They don’t care about the border. They don’t care about the debt. Biden is so weak he’s got us into two conflicts right now. Everything that Biden and Democrats have done have failed us,” stated Scott. “People like what is going on in Florida that is why people are moving to Florida. They don’t want defunding the police. They want great education, they want great jobs.

Republicans are expected to retain Scott’s Senate seat.

Other Republican lawmakers in attendance were Reps. Daniel Webster, Michael Waltz, John Rutherford, Aaron Bean, Carlos Gimenez, Gus Bilirakis, Neal Dunn, Vern Buchanan, Bill Posey, and Scott Franklin.
