Waltz Commends Turner Warning of Russian Threat

Share

House Intelligence Committee Chair Representative Mike Turner (R-OH) recently warned of a national security threat involving Russia, prompting discussion and worry. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on Fox News's The Story with Martha MacCallum to commend Rep. Turner for making the announcement and demanding information from the Biden Administration on how to act.

Fox News reported Rep. Turner had publicly announced that "an urgent matter" required the attention of Congress. However, it was not urgent, while further reporting suggested Russia was looking into nuclear anti-satellite systems, and a briefing would be held the day after the news broke.

Before the meeting, Rep. Waltz said, "I completely agree and support Chairman Turner in taking this action. The issue is very serious. It is very grave, and I do want to reassure everyone that no one needs to be climbing into their bunker tonight."

Additionally, he pointed out that Turner's announcement was intended to provoke the briefing, as "We are calling on the administration [to] make the American people and the world aware of it, so I am glad that the administration is coming over to talk to our leadership."

Host Martha MacCallum then played a clip of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan expressing surprise (found in the link above, in "suggested") that Turner publicly announced the intel, as the Biden Administration had supposedly planned to meet with Congress on the Russian threat already.

Rep. Waltz replied, "Repeated letters have been sent about this issue, and we have not gotten a response."

"So again, from an oversight standpoint, number one, we needed to broaden the number of members that were aware. And then number two, we need to call on the administration to make the American people aware, and, frankly, our allies, and we need to understand how the administration is going to deal with it, and what their strategy is to deal with it moving forward," Waltz continued.

MacCallum brought up previous reports of Russia launching rockets into space and cooperation with China, asking if they have any connection to the new nuclear anti-satellite system.

Waltz said he could not provide a definitive answer, only that "if this administration does not take firm action, this could be a geostrategic game changer."
