RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel Stepping Down

Share

Supporters of President Donald Trump (R) have clamored for Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel (R) to step down, and it looks like they’ve gotten their wish. The RNC Chairwoman has announced that she will be stepping down from her role on March 8th.

For seven years, Chairwoman McDaniel has led the RNC, but her leadership has been divisive for Republicans. So much so that calls for her to resign amplified during the 2024 Republican primary race.

After hinting at the move earlier this month, Chairwoman McDaniel has confirmed that March 8th will be her last day as Chairwoman of the RNC.

In a statement, she shared that some of her accomplishments “include firing Nancy Pelosi, winning the popular vote in 2022, creating an Election Integrity Department, building the committee’s first small dollar grassroots donor program, strengthening our state parties through our Growing Republican Organizations to Win program, expanding the Party through minority outreach at our community centers, and launching Bank Your Vote to get Republicans to commit to voting early.”

“I have decided to step aside at our Spring Training on March 8 in Houston to allow our nominee to select a Chair of their choosing,” she said, adding that “the RNC has historically undergone change once we have a nominee and it has always been my intention to honor that tradition.”

In 2016, President Trump chose Chairwoman McDaniel to lead the RNC. Though a nominee has not emerged from the race between President Trump and Ambassador Nikki Haley (R), it is expected that President Trump will become the nominee.

As such, President Trump has expressed his support for changes to be established in the RNC’s leadership.

President Trump has suggested that Michael Whatley (R), the Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party should serve as RNC chair.

Drew McKissick (R), the current RNC co-chair also announced that he would be stepping down, and President Trump has suggested that his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump (R), should succeed him as the RNC co-chair.
