Moskowitz Says Keeping Classified Documents is Bipartisan Problem

Security of classified documents seems to have become a bipartisan concern for Democrats and Republicans alike, especially after the Department of Justice's (DOJ) recent ruling on the Joe Biden scandal. Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) recently appeared on Fox News's America Reports to discuss the issue, saying, "There is definitely a procedure and protocol problem."

President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence have been in trouble for allegedly keeping classified documents in their homes without proper security measures. Pence had the charges against him dropped in June, while the DOJ ruled they would not charge Biden on the grounds of being a "well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory."

Regardless of the results, Rep. Moskowitz noted, "there was bipartisan concern about how classified documents are leaving the executive branch when people leave office."

Additionally, he stated that accountability is necessary in such cases, yet "we have to figure out how to stop this from happening even if there is no intent. It just kind of happens because how we are boxing these things up is haphazard."

Host John Roberts pointed out that some documents Biden allegedly kept were from his time as Senator, which complicated Rep. Moskowitz's argument.

The Florida Congressman replied, "Well, we have to figure out how that happened."

Moreover, Moskowitz reiterated there could be a benign reason for Biden keeping classified documents rather than intentional theft: "If that happened because he was given a box by someone in his staff when cleaning up his office and he did not know what was in there, I think that is different than someone who knew what they had and did not turn it in, or, in fact, tried to hide it and not turn it in when it was discovered that they had classified documents."

Nevertheless, because classified documents have been found in the possession of both Democrats and Republicans, a wide-reaching problem of how keeping classified documents altogether has existed.

"There is definitely a procedure and protocol problem on how we are keeping classified documents and how they are getting out," Moskowitz concluded.
