The Democratic Party's perception of being the anti-Israel party continues to persist as the Jewish State's conflict with Hamas rages on. Representative Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) told The Floridian in a recent interview that not only are such views a minority among Democrats but many left-leaning voters are misinformed about the conflict and are given undue attention by the media.
As a Jewish-American, Rep. Moskowitz has assured wary voters that anti-Israel sentiment within the Democratic Party is confined to a tiny minority of Representatives in the past. However, he respects their freedom of speech.
"I will always fight for people's rights to say, for freedom of speech and to say things, but that does not mean that they are correct," Rep. Moskowitz said, "and yeah, there is a small group, small elements of members here that are part of this progressive movement that is wrong about Israel."
But why is this minority able to have their voices raised above the majority?
"[They] have been influenced, unbeknownst to them by a lot of Chinese and Russian media, through TikTok," Moskowitz said, referencing instances of pro-Palestine protesters tearing down posters of the hostages held by Hamas.
Additionally, he pointed at the inability of many pro-Palestine protesters to define which river and sea are referenced in the infamous "From the River to the Sea, Palestine will be free" chant.
Not only are these people misinformed, Moskowitz continued, but they can get their message across precisely because the media focuses on them rather than the majority of Democrats who are supportive of Israel.
"They are the minority of the Democratic Party up here [Washington, D.C.], and they are the minority of the Democratic voter as well. But we give them lots of coverage and lots of airtime because that is what happens in the media. We give both fringes too much time and too much coverage. We give the [House] Freedom Caucus too much coverage, and we give the far, far left up here too much coverage," Moskowitz concluded.
The Florida Congressman's remarks come as the Biden Administration is seeking a two-state solution to end the conflict with a demilitarized Palestine.
