Mills Says Biden Border Deal Will Pay Drug Cartels With Taxpayer Dollars

The Senate bipartisan border deal continues to attract scrutiny and outrage from Republicans. Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) sat down with The Floridian to offer insight on the monetary aspects of the bill, specifically how American taxpayer dollars will find their way back to the cartels.

Additionally, Rep. Mills noted that much of the border deal's leaked text beforehand remained the same in the official release, such as the 5,000 per day cap described in the bill's 212th page.

"It is very clear that, in order to even get Secretary [of Homeland Security Alejandro] Mayorkas to enact any emergency procedures, you have to have, as I noted, 5,000 per day. So one: you are going to flood the ports, but two, you are talking about 1.82 million people [per year]. That is the entire population of West Virginia," Rep. Mills said.

Moreover, he suggested the cartels would easily find their way around it by sending 4,000 people per day, which totals to 1.46 million per year.

"You think about the idea of paying for... the American taxpayers, that is, paying for things like legal fees for immigrants. You start thinking about the idea that many of these people who come across the border have colored armbands or things like this that actually indicates the amount of money that is owed back to the cartels, for the coyotes who crossed them over," Mills continued, adding that the prepaid debit card for migrants program in New York City would see usage by migrants for this exact purpose.

Now we have taxpayer's money that is going to pay cartels," said Mills.

"Let's look at the cash: You have $500 million approximately in 2018 that the cartels made in revenue. Fast forward to 2021, you [have] got over $13 billion in revenue [that] is going to the cartels, of which 40% is just human and child sex trafficking. I mean, this is a true humanitarian, health, and national security crisis," Mills concluded.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has already confirmed the House would reject the deal. Other Republicans continue to savage it, such as Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), who called the bill "trash." Similarly, Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) said the bill is pointless because President Biden has the power to end the border crisis himself yet will ignore any Congressional deal
