Mills Expresses Suspicion Toward Timing of Turner's Russia Warning

Share

Last week, Representative Mike Turner (R-OH) publicly warned Russia was developing nuclear anti-satellite technology. Despite the warning's prevalence, Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) cast suspicion on the timing of the announcement, pointing out Rep. Turner issued it as the House was going to vote on FISA reauthorization and aid to Ukraine in a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First.

Rep. Mills posted the clip on X (formerly Twitter), "The national security threat that was raised last week is of great concern because it could knock out satellites or make certain areas unable to reinstall satellites for a prolonged period of time. The timing of Rep. Turner’s announcement however was questionable, given that it lined up with the same week the House was supposed to vote on the reauthorization of FISA and supplemental for Ukraine. In police work, they call that a clue!"

However, Rep. Mills did not dismiss the threat of Russia's developing nuclear anti-satellite programs wholesale, saying, "The raising of concern for this is certainly warranted."

Additionally, he suggested "utilization of the 1967 Outer Space [Treaty. Mills misspoke by referring to it as an "Act"]," and working with others to find what international violations the Russian program may be committing.

Still, Mills did not "like the manner in which it was done, and I also find the timing of Mike Turner's release to be a bit questionable," saying as he did in his tweet, "In police work, they call that a clue, not a coincidence."

When the news broke, Mills' colleague Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) criticized the Biden Administration's "surprise" at Rep. Turner's announcement when the White House was planning a meeting about the intel.

"So again, from an oversight standpoint, number one, we needed to broaden the number of members that were aware. And then number two, we need to call on the administration to make the American people aware, and, frankly, our allies, and we need to understand how the administration is going to deal with it, and what their strategy is to deal with it moving forward," said Rep. Waltz.

Moreover, this is not the first time Mills has been skeptical about the timing of events. In August, the Florida Congressman posited that the indictments against former President Donald Trump were intentionally close to scandal and revelation surrounding the Biden family.

Later in December, further events seemed to validate Mills' theory. Colorado removed Trump from the state ballot within days of House Republicans preparing to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for failing to appear for closed-door testimony.
