Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is throwing his support behind the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s grand jury documents. From his criminal activities to his mysterious death, lawmakers have called for more information to be released regarding Epstein's criminal investigations.
This week, the Florida Senate gave final approval to SB 234. The bill would allow the release of documents regarding convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as part of a 2006 Florida grand jury investigation.
Florida Senator Tina Polsky (D) filed the legislation, and it passed the Senate floor unanimously. Last week, the Florida House also voted unanimously to pass the bill. In the house, the bill was filed by Florida Rep. Peggy Gossett-Siedman (R), who’s argued that Epstein’s victims deserve to know more about the testimony against Epstein in Florida case.
In 2006, Epstein evaded severe punishment as part of the investigation, which included allegations involving the solicitation of minors for sexual activity.
Shortly after it was announced that the Florida Senate had unanimously passed the bill, Governor DeSantis took to social media to announced that he would be signing the bill. “All files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal activity should be made public,” Governor DeSantis addressed.
“While the federal government continues to stonewall accountability, I’m glad the Legislature has taken action to release the grand jury material from the Florida state case,” he added.
Governor DeSantis concluded his statement by proclaiming that he would sign the bill into law.
Sharing news of the bill's passage in the Florida Senate, and highlighting his support for unveiling the documents, Governor DeSantis further questioned “why won’t Biden release the federal government’s Epstein files?”
A report by the Justice Department uncovered that former Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta exercised “poor judgement” when investigating wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein. However, the report did find that Secretary Acosta did not engage in any professional malfeasance.
