Biden Running Up the Numbers on Trump in Fundraising

Americans are gearing up for a presidential election rematch between President Joe Biden (D) and former President Donald Trump (R).  President Biden's corner is getting ready to run what may be the most expensive campaign ever.

The President is currently in California right now, where he is campaigning to raise money.  The DNC publicly stated that the Biden campaign had $42 million in contributions during January from 422,000 donors.

In total the Biden campaign had $130 million in cash on hand at the end as of last month. Campaign officials said that is the highest total amassed by any Democratic candidate at this point in the cycle.  However, the donations are coming from smaller donations with 97% of donations being under $200.

Biden campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez stated Biden's fundraising numbers are, "an indisputable show of strength to start the election year.  While Team Biden-Harris continues to build on its fundraising machine, Republicans are divided – either spending money fighting Donald Trump, or spending money in support of Donald Trump’s extreme and losing agenda."

On the other hand, likely GOP nominee Donald Trump is fighting an uphill battle financially.  On top of his mounting legal fees from the 91 felonies he is currently accused of, the former President has recently been ordered by a New York court to pay $350 million in damages for misrepresenting his finances.

Although supporters are sending the former president cash, Biden still holds a fundraising edge over Trump.  Even in Trump's home state of Florida, Biden managed to raise over $6 million after one fundraising trip to Miami last month.
