Waltz Blasts Democrat Double Standard with Hunter Biden Subpoena

Share

The House Oversight Committee will charge Hunter Biden with contempt of Congress for his refusal to appear for closed-door testimony in December. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) appeared on Fox Business's Varney & Co. to discuss, pointing out the double standard of Democrats who insisted Trump officials appear before Congress yet did not condemn Hunter's skipping out.

Host Stuart Varney began with the question if the First Son is protecting President Joe Biden.

Rep. Waltz, who joined the House Oversight Committee just days before the original deposition, said that was "one of the many things we want to find out. But I will just quote the ranking Democrat [Representative] Jamie Raskin (D-MD), who in 2022 said, 'If subpoenaed, you will show up and assert any privilege you think applies to specific questions, but you cannot just blow off the proceeding."

Additionally, Rep. Waltz pointed out how Trump officials Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro "agreed to testify publicly and Jamie Raskin said, 'No, you have to go by closed doors," while Trump's son Donald Jr. "came and showed up behind closed doors five different times for three different Democrat-led committees. So what is good for the goose is good for the gander," echoing similar comments made by Representative Greg Steube (R-FL), who further suggested Hunter would not comply with further subpoenas.

In December, Hunter Biden was subpoenaed to appear before the House Oversight Committee for closed-door testimony regarding evidence found by the impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Instead, Hunter gave a short speech in front of the Senate wing of the Capitol dismissing the investigation before leaving, organized with the help of Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA).

Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) heavily criticized Biden's actions later in the day, saying the speech "demonstrates how arrogant he is about the seriousness of what is going on" and called it "a joke."
