Florida Rep. Brian Mast (R) was confronted by supporters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) at his office, who called him a “liar” for his support of defunding UNRWA. Republicans have vocally opposed UNRWA, arguing that it is funding terrorists.
Outside of his office, Rep. Mast was confronted by protestors who questioned his stance on UNRWA.
“The United Nations was moronic for creating UNRWA, which has been an abysmal failure,” he told the protestors. Accusing UNRWA of spreading misinformation regarding Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7th, 2023, a protestor called Rep. Mast, citing that “these children are being slaughtered and now you want to take the last of the food and water.”
When Rep. Mast didn’t budge in his approach to the protestors, the protestor affirmed that she pays taxes and that her “taxes go to UNRWA,” which Rep. Mast said she was perfectly able to contribute to from her own money.
The footage of Rep. Mast and the protestors that was posted on social media shows the protestor walking away, cursing at Mast, and calling him a “liar” before she is told that she cannot curse.
Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R) also shared his views concerning UNRWA this week as the United Nations expressed its support for a ceasefire.
Rep. Crenshaw responded to the social media post, showing a disconnect between President Joe Biden (D)and President Donald Trump (R) in their respective relationships with the UN.
“In 2018, Trump suspended funding the UN relief agency due to allegations its schools support Hamas teachings,” he said, adding that “unfortunately, Biden restored the funding after taking office in 2021.”
“Now we learn at least 12 UNRWA are believed to be involved in the Oct. 7 attack on Israel and Israeli intelligence assesses roughly 10% of all UNRWA employees in Gaza have ties to terror organizations,” he further commented, calling it “unacceptable.”
