U.S. Supreme Court Will Review Barring Trump From Election

Share

The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to decide whether or not President Donald Trump (R) could be barred from holding office. Several states have floated the idea of removing President Trump from the ballot, but only Maine has decided to move forward with the act. Judge Michael Luttig, a former federal judge, is now commenting on the matter, affirming that President Trump’s violation “could not be any clearer.”

Over the weekend, the U.S. Supreme Court announced that it would be reviewing the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to remove President Trump from the state’s ballot over his alleged involvement in the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

During an interview with MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, Judge Luttig commented on the announcement, sharing that President Trump’s violation is clear.

“The Supreme Court does not want to decide this case and it will likely look for every legitimate way possible… to avoid deciding whether the former president is disqualified from the presidency. But… there are very, very few, if any, off ramps that would allow the Supreme Court to avoid decision in this case. Indeed, I believe there are none. Section three of the 14th Amendment simply could not be any clearer that the former President is disqualified from the presidency as the Colorado Supreme Court held,” he said.

The decision to remove President Trump from ballots has been a controversial one. After deciding to remove the president from the state ballot, Colorado quickly rescinded the decision. However, Maine moved forward with removing President Trump from the state ballot, and other states like California have entertained the idea of doing the same.

Over the weekend, a purported event to celebrate January 6th was going to feature Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R) as a guest speaker. However, the event was quickly cancelled after the venue announced it did not know what the event would be for.
