Scott, Trump Declare GOP Must Hold Firm Through Senate Confirmation Process

President-elect Donald Trump (R) is calling on congressional Republicans to "be smart and tough" as his inauguration day and Senate confirmation hearings approach. But with probable Democrat blockades to Trump's agenda and his appointments, prominent GOP member Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) is also asking those in the GOP to take advantage of the "mandate" given by the American people this election cycle.

First, President-elect Trump's comments accused Senate Democrats of "organizing to improperly stall and delay" the incoming administration.

"We just won a Historic Landslide and Mandate from the American People, but Senate Democrats are organizing to improperly stall and delay the confirmation process of many of our Great Nominees," said Trump. "They will try all sorts of tricks starting very soon. Republicans must not allow them to do that. We have a Country to run, and many big problems to solve, mostly created by Democrats. REPUBLICANS, BE SMART AND TOUGH!!!"

Moreover, Sen. Scott added that the GOP needs to remain united, especially in the Senate.

"President Trump is right," said Sen. Scott. "The American people spoke loud and clear. Republicans must stand together and start working to confirm his nominees on DAY ONE!"

Furthermore, Rep. Babin recently agreed with the notion that the GOP was given a mandate after this cycle and it should focus less on in-fighting and more on working for the American people.

 

"The American people have given us a mandate to fix this country, and we don't want to be spending weeks again choosing another speaker when we really don't know who that speaker could possibly [be]," said Babin. "Mike, he's got an impossible job, as I've said, we've got to keep him in there. We've got a Republican House and a Republican Senate. We're going to have Trump in the White House. We can't be squandering away days and weeks trying to pick a speaker when we've got an agenda to pass this to save this country."

Republicans have a somewhat-comfortable majority in the Senate (53-47) but a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives (220-215). Depsite having all control of all three branches of governmnent for the upcoming 119th Congress, the GOP has its work cut out for it for the next two years.
