Gov. Ron DeSantis and Evan Power
The Republican Party of Florida has elected Evan Power to lead the state GOP after former Chairman Christian Ziegler was ousted after being accused of sexual assault a couple of months back.
According to sources, the entire Florida Republican legislative caucus was in attendance and helped Power win the chairmanship by a vote count of 135-65.
“Congratulations to our new Chairman, @EvanPower. Under his strong leadership, we will Keep Florida RED, deliver Florida’s 30 electoral votes to the GOP presidential candidate, and elect Republicans up and down the ballot. Let’s get to work,” stated the Florida GOP.
National Committeeman Peter Feaman lost to Power, garnering only 65 votes.
“It’s the honor of a life,” stated Power after the vote.
Before the vote to expel Ziegler, Power spoke to The Floridian about the upcoming vote.
Power said that he was confident in the vote and that he was just preparing himself for any unforeseen shenanigans that could arise during the deliberations.
No such shenanigans occurred, and a year after first losing the chairmanship to Ziegler, Power has now been voted in as chairman.
Republican lawmakers, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, were quick to get behind Power when the news broke that Ziegler was being investigated by police for the alleged sexual assault.
Ziegler was not present at the vote.
