Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is currently trailing Ambassador Nikki Haley (R) in Iowa. Criticism between them has intensified as they look to catch up to President Donald Trump (R) in the polls. Ahead of the Iowa Caucus, Governor DeSantis released an advertisement, accusing Ambassador Haley of lying and exposing the “truth about Nikki.”
Captioning the video with “Nikki Haley wants you to believe her over your own lyin’ eyes,” Governor DeSantis shared the advertisement that accuses the presidential hopeful of lying.
The advertisement juxtaposes comments that Ambassador Haley has made in the past with recent comments of her saying that she never said them. In one instance, Bret Baier of Fox News pressed Ambassador Haley over allegedly saying that the age of retirement is “way, way too low.” Footage of Ambassador Haley is then shown saying that the retirement age of “65 is way too low.”
In another instance, footage of Ambassador Haley refuting having ever said that Secretary Hillary Clinton (D) inspired her to get into politics. Footage is then shown of her saying “I often say that the reason why I got into politics is because of Hillary Clinton.”
Similar contrasting footage is shown regarding Ambassador Haley’s views on social media use and the controversial “bathroom bill” that she opposed as Governor of South Carolina.
In a turn of events, Ambassador Haley has overtaken Governor DeSantis in Iowa polling. Despite both Ambassador Haley and Governor DeSantis gaining support in recent weeks, President Trump still holds a significant lead over both.
Although she has not endorsed a candidate, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R) suggested that she would not rule out endorsing President Trump.
“I’m not endorsing anyone in the Iowa Caucuses… I do think that President Trump is going to win. We see such a large margin, but it’s not a foregone conclusion. We’ll see who emerges,” she said.
