DeSantis Calls House Sellouts Over Bipartisan Deal

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R) finds himself embroiled in controversy after the House reached a deal to provide government funding. Over the weekend, the agreement was announced, which provides funding limits for the military and domestic programs for the fiscal year that began on October 1^st. In response to the announcement, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) has unloaded on the House, calling them sellouts for the bipartisan deal.

Governor DeSantis did not hold back in criticizing House Republicans for “selling out everything that they ran on in 2022.” “They said they were gonna change the way Washington operates,” he said, adding that Republicans “said that they were gonna hold these agencies accountable.”

In the end, the Florida governor argues that they need leadership to get them back on track.

“The House of Representatives is supposed to, because they’re armed with the power of the purse, be the people’s redress for when government misbehaves, when government violates people’s rights, when government doesn’t do its core functions like its failure to do with the border,” Governor DeSantis explaining, adding that “if you’re willing to just simply fund the whole thing into perpetuity, then you’re never gonna get any of those practices changed.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) is alleged to have called the deal “a good deal for Democrats and the country” during a private briefing call, and this has infuriated Republicans like Governor DeSantis.

“What’s going on now with the status quo is shutting down our country, it’s shutting down the American Dream, it’s shutting down our sovereignty,” Governor DeSantis warned. However, he laments that “this has been standard practice for Republicans for a long time.”

The presidential hopeful further commented that when President Donald Trump (R) was in office, he did not provide that leadership, and he offered his own guidance as the alternative that Republicans need to course correct.
