This week marks the Iowa Caucus, and President Donald Trump (R) is leading the pack of Republican candidates by a wide margin. Ambassador Nikki Haley (R) has overtaken Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in the polls, generating speculation that he’ll be dropping out early. On the eve of the Iowa Caucus, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R) has endorsed President Trump.
President Trump has scored numerous endorsements from Florida, a state that largely supports President Trump over Governor DeSantis. Ahead of the Iowa Caucus, Governor Burgum became the first former presidential candidate to endorse President Trump.
Appearing alongside him at a campaign rally, Governor Burgum expressed why the country needs President Trump in the White House again.
“I’ve seen President Trump and what he’s been able to do. I’ve seen it as a business leader, and I’ve seen it as a governor. I’ve seen the difference that President Trump can make because remember when I first took office, President Obama was still president. Trying to work with his administration was a disaster,” Governor Burgum said.
“Then President Trump took office and everything changed. States like Iowa, states like North Dakota, heartland states, we were respected. We had a friend and a partner in the White House, who understood us and who wanted to see our states succeed versus being regulated out of business,” he continued.
Heading into the Iowa Caucus, President Trump, Ambassador Haley, and Governor DeSantis are all leading President Joe Biden (D). Haley currently has the highest lead over President Biden in a national poll.
A CBS News Poll indicated that support for President Trump has risen to its highest level with 69% of support. Moreover, likely GOP primary voters were asked if the Iowa and New Hampshire contests would impact their decisions, and 73% argued that the contests would in no way impact their decisions.
