President Donald Trump’s (R) challengers are now speaking out against Colorado’s Supreme Court. The court made the decision to remove President Trump from the GOP primary ballot, and the Republican frontrunner called it the latest “witch hunt” effort. In response, President Trump’s rivals are condemning the decision, arguing that voters will decide the 2024 election decide elections and not judges.
Vivek Ramaswamy (R) was the first to release a video, opposing the court’s decision while also pledging to remove himself from the same primary ballot. Though he noted this was an opportunity for President Trump’s challengers to take advantage of, he noted that voter decide who they want and that the other presidential hopefuls should follow suit in removing themselves from the ballot.
The challengers are now voicing their disapproval of the decision.
Speaking to an audience in Bedford, New Hampshire, Governor Chris Christie (R) commented, “I do not believe Donald Trump should be prevented from being president of the United States by any court. I think he should be prevented from being president of the United States by the voters of this country.”
Ambassador Nikki Haley (R), in speaking to reporters in Agency, Iowa, expressed, “I don’t think Donald Trump needs to be president. I think I need to be president. I think that’s good for the country, but I will beat him fair and square. We don’t need half judges making these decisions. We need voters to make these decisions, so I want to see this in the hands of voters… the last thing we want is judges telling us who can and can’t be on the ballot.”
Finally, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) questioned the legitimacy of the decision, sharing that “there was no trial on any of this. They basically just said ‘you can’t be on the ballot.’ How does that work?”
Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (I) also weighed in on social media, writing that “when a court in another country disqualifies an opposition candidate from running, we say, ‘that’s not a real democracy.’ Now it’s happening here.”
