U.S. Senator Rick Scott (R) announced on his social media that unknown individuals deliberately and illegally harassed him by calling in a false criminal police claim, causing the Naples Police Department to respond to his residence "Last night, while at dinner with my wife, cowards “swatted” my home in Naples. These criminals wasted the time & resources of our law enforcement in a sick attempt to terrorize my family," stated Sen. Scott.
The act of falsely calling the police is called "swatting," which is extremely dangerous considering that the false allegations are made so that a maximum police presence arrives, usually heavily armed with a "SWAT" team.
There have been instances of swatting that have resulted in death as a result of police discharging their weapons or by the victim sustaining a heart attack.
