Dunn Worried About Chinese Infiltration into Northern Mariana Islands

Congressman Neal Dunn (R-Fl) has sent a letter to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas regarding unregulated Chinese entry of into the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

According to Embassies.net, Chinese nationals need not present any visa for short-term travel into the CNMI.  

Consequently, Dunn was joined by Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) and other legislators in requesting Secretary Mayorkas implement visa requirements for Chinese entering the CNMI. 

Dunn explained that any individuals seeking to enter the US temporarily must apply and be granted a B-1/B-2 visa and that such requirements must also apply to Chinese nationals. 

“The Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands is the only U.S. territory that does not require a visa for Chinese nationals to enter. Current statute allows Chinese nationals to enter the islands for 14 days visa-free,” said Congressman Dunn. 

Citing the Chinese Communist Party’s nefarious conduct seeking to undermine US interests, Dunn claimed the US should place additional care in monitoring Chinese immigration. 

Dunn claimed the US “must implement the requirement of a B-1/B-2 visa to enter the CMNI to successfully deter the Chinese Communist Party’s aggression and transnational repression.”

Anti-US Chinese conduct has prompter US foreign policy to increasingly seek diminishing US-dependency on China while maintaining peaceful relations. 

Recently, President Joe Biden met with Communist Dictator Xi Jinping in California to discuss trade, national security, and environmental matters. 

While some hailed the meeting as fostering cooperation between the world’s two largest economies, some conservative politicians consider it a risk to negotiate with China. 

Senator Rick Scott (R-Fl), for example, criticized President Biden’s alleged informal agreement with Xi to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by shifting away from fossil fuels. 

Scott claimed the Biden-Xi deal hinders the American energy industry and jeopardizes hundreds of jobs in exchange for environmental promises from the world’s largest polluter.
