DeSantis Fears ‘Difficult Election Year’ if Trump Wins Nomination

Share

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) continues to draw differences between himself and President Donald Trump (R). Not only does Governor DeSantis highlight the shortcomings of President Trump’s time in office, but he also points out that President Trump cannot lead Republicans to victory. In speaking to voters in Iowa, Governor DeSantis fears that 2024 will be a difficult election year if President Trump wins the nomination.

When asked about President Trump’s failure to “drain the swamp,” Governor DeSantis replied by explaining that “the swamp is worse today, by far, than it was just 6 or 7 years ago, and in fact, he put a lot of people in positions who were from the swamp, and he didn’t fire people like Fauci when he had the opportunity to do it.”

Contrasting the efforts he’s made to “drain the swamp” in Florida with President Trump’s efforts in the White House, he did note that “DC swamp is more difficult than anything I dealt with in Florida.”

“Five of the 8 wealthiest counties in our entire country are suburbs of Washington D.C. That didn’t get that way because they’re doing good government there. It got that way because there’s a lot of self-serving policies. When they ring up debt and print money and you pay more here in Iowa, they’re making money in D.C,” the governor explained.

Whatever effort is launched to “drain the swamp,” Governor DeSantis said, will be met with opposition from bureaucrats, Democrats, and the establishment.

In turn, “you’ve gotta have a president that is focused and disciplined on unraveling this swamp.”

In the hypothetical scenario that President Trump wins the election, he would only be able to serve a term, which Governor DeSantis argues is not enough time to enact the changes that need to happen in D.C.

Because of this, Governor DeSantis affirmed that “the election year would be very difficult if he’s our nominee.”
