This week, the Republican presidential candidates will take the stage despite the leading candidate not being present. In a new CBS poll President Donald Trump (R) is even leading President Joe Biden (D).
Over the weekend, the Republican presidential candidates headed to south Florida for the Republican Freedom Summit. It was there that the candidates spoke directly to conservative voters, making their case for the respective campaigns while also casting doubt over Trump’s ability to lead the Republican party to a win.
Trump, in his speech made it clear that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) and the other Republicans just end their campaigns.
“It is time for the Republican establishment to stop wasting time and money trying to push weak RINOs and never-Trumpers that nobody wants on the ballot, and to get behind the only candidate and candidates that can withstand the attacks from the radical left,” said Trump.
Though Republicans like DeSantis, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) cast doubt over another Trump presidency, the polls suggest that public opinion has swayed in Trump’s direction.
In a new CBS poll, President Trump is leading President Biden by 3 points with 51% of support compared to 48% of support for Biden.
According to voters, more voters say that they’d be better off financially if Trump were to win in 2024. As well, more voters argue that Trump can keep the U.S. out of a war.
The poll comes as the number of Americans who say things are “going badly” has significantly increased.
Trump is currently leading Biden in four states, which includes Nevada with 52% to 41%; Georgia with 49% to 43%; Arizona with 49% to 44%; and Michigan with 48% to 43%.
In a statement to CNN, Kevin Munoz, Biden’s campaign spokesperson, commented that “predictions more than a year out tend to look a little different a year later.”
“Coming off those historic (2022) midterms, President Biden’s campaign is hard at work reaching and mobilizing our winning, popular agenda and MAGA Republicans’ unpopular extremism,” Munoz said, adding, “we’ll win in 2024 by putting our heads down and doing the work, not by fretting about a poll.”
