Utah Senator Mitt Romney (R) is making headlines again, and the former presidential hopeful is making it clear that he would not vote for President Donald Trump (R) in the 2024 election. Not only would Senator Romney not vote for President Trump, but he also made it clear that he would not vote for Vivek Ramaswamy (R). In lieu of President Trump and Ramaswamy, Senator Romney shared that he would vote for any Democrat candidates.
Senator Romney and President Trump share a contentious history. At one point, the 2012 presidential nominee was vying for the Secretary of State role when Trump was heading into office. However, when it was clear that he would not be serving in the role, Senator Romney had choice words for President Trump and the Republican party he was leading.
With the likelihood that President Trump will once again be the Republican nominee, Senator Romney is already letting his constituents know that he would not vote for Trump in the upcoming election.
In speaking to CBS News’ Norah O’Donnell, Romney was asked who he likes among the candidates in the Republican party. Romney shared that he would be “happy to support virtually any one of the Republicans.” Well, “maybe not Vivek.”
“But the others that are running would be acceptable to me, and I’d be happy to vote for them. I’d be happy to vote a number of the Democrats too. It would be an upgrade, in my opinion, from Donald Trump and perhaps also from Joe Biden,” Romney continued.
Senator Romney expressed that Trump getting back into the White House would be “devastating,” and given that he said the other candidates were “perhaps” better than President Joe Biden (D), the jury is still out on if Senator Romney would vote for President Biden instead of President Trump.
He called President Biden a “charming, engaging person” and noted that he and President Biden “get along.”
