Jared Moskowitz Votes to Censure Rashida Tlaib

After an initial vote to table the resolution to censure Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the House has voted to censure Tlaib. 22 Democrats voted to censure Tlaib, including Florida Rep. Jared Moskowitz. The resolution was introduced by Georgia Rep. Rich McCormick (R) after fellow Congress member Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R) effort failed.

In last week’s vote, 23 Republicans joined Democrats in voting against Rep. Greene’s resolution. However, after commenting that she would join an effort to reintroduce the resolution with updated language,  the vote passed.

Four Republicans voted against the resolution to censure Tlaib, but 22 Democrats voted in favor of it.

The final tally resulted in a 234-188 vote.

One Democrat who suggested he would vote in favor of the censure earlier this week is Moskowitz. During an interview on CNN’s “The Lead,” Moskowitz affirmed his support for censuring her due to “her misinformation on the hospital bombing, which, obviously, we know was not true, that she continued to spread even after intelligence came out it wasn’t true.” Moskowitz also cited Tlaib’s use of “from the river to the sea,” explain that it “means the destruction of Israel and everyone who’s in it.” “Just like ‘Mein Kamp’ is not a coloring book and the final solution means exactly what Hitler meant it to mean,” Moskowitz added.

Moskowitz further explained that “’from the river to the sea’ is calling for the destruction of an entire country, period, full stop. And, so, the Congresswoman has a First Amendment right. She can say whatever she wants. But, at the same time, Congress has the ability to express their displeasure with a fellow colleague of ours calling for the destruction of a country.”

Aside from Moskowitz, other Democrats that voted to censure Tlaib include Florida Reps. Lois Frankel, Darren Soto, Frederica Wilson, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

McCormick's resolution accused Tlaib of "promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel" as well as for using the antisemitic phrase "from the river to the sea."
