High Prices Loom Over Thanksgiving Weekend, Killing American Dream

Share

Americans’ travel and food expenses have increased compared to previous years as they gather with friends and family during this Thanksgiving holiday week.

Prices for all typical food items used in Thanksgiving meals have increased drastically since 2020.

According to a recent post by the Wall Street Journal, prices for potatoes, bread rolls, and butter  are up 12, 27, and 25 percent, respectively. Additionally, gasoline prices have nearly doubled during the last three years.

The price spikes have been credited to inflation, with experts pointing to poor fiscal policy by President Joe Biden’s Administration.

Conservatives have been quick to harness increased prices emphasized by Thanksgiving to criticize President Biden.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fl) posted an informational video claiming Biden’s initiatives have severely damaged the US economy.

“Bidenomics is killing the American Dream,” said Senator Rubio.

Over a year ago, Biden passed the Inflation Reduction Act to combat high prices.

The reaction to the act's impact from the public and political figures has been mixed, with some lauding the move and others criticizing it.

Representative Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fl) celebrated the act on its anniversary, asserting it has helped lower costs.

“With the historic #InflationReductionAct, Democrats passed legislation one year ago today to create clean energy jobs, lower health care costs, cap prescription costs, like insulin,” said Rep. Schultz.

Meanwhile, Representative Byron Donalds (R-Fl) derided the act as a ““$1 trillion boondoggle of a bill.”

While inflation has generally decreased during the last year, it still remains above pre-Biden administration levels.
