Florida conservatives are celebrating the victory of Javier Milei in the Argentine Presidential elections yesterday, November 19th.

Milei, an economics professor known as a relentless advocate for laissez faire economics, limited government, and conservative values, garnered over 55% of the vote.

Milei has been commended for his electoral achievement by sundry Florida political leaders.

“Congrats to Argentina’s president-elect,” said Senator Rick Scott (R-Fl).

Representative Maria Elvira-Salazar (R), who supported Milei’s candidacy throughout the entire election, underscored her ties with the president-elect.

“I interviewed Milei in 2020, when he was a defiant economist,” said representative Salazar.

Salazar congratulated Milei, saying his election demonstrates that “it is possible to defeat Socialism in Latin America.”

Florida State Senator Ileana Garcia (R), the acting Chairwoman of the Florida Senate Committee on Children, Families, and Elder Affairs, also expressed her support for Milei.

Milei defeated Socialist leader Sergio Massa, Argentina’s past Economy Minister who oversaw annual inflation rise to 143% and 40% of Argentines living in poverty, according to the BBC.

According to Reuters, former President Donald Trump also commended Milei.

“"Congratulations to Javier Milei on a great race for president of Argentina. The whole world was watching! I am very proud of you. You will turn your country around and truly Make Argentina Great Again,” said President Trump.

President Joe Biden did not congratulate Milei directly, but did so through his National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan

Milei now faces an uphill battle to implement all the desired changes he promised to enact during the campaign trail to combat sky-high inflation, endemic poverty, and rising crime.
