Donalds Says Cutting IRS Money for Israel 'Makes Most Sense'

House Republicans under Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) intend to separate Ukraine funding from Israel aid and take money intended to expand the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for the latter. Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) spoke on Fox Business's Varney & Co. to discuss the plan, saying new IRS agents "are not going to help us raise revenue" and diverting their funds to go to Israel "makes the most sense to do."

Host Stuart Varney began asking Rep. Donalds how he felt about funding Ukraine, to which he answered, "Supporting Ukraine is not something I want to do at this point, we have got to put that to the side. Support for Israel is what matters right now."

Additionally, Rep. Donalds said House Republicans are more than ready to move forward on this proposal, as the country is running a deficit of more than $2 trillion.

"We have got to change the way Washington works. Paying for Israeli aid is very simple to do. It will not stop Israel from doing what they need to do, and quite frankly, new IRS agents are not going to help us raise revenue. They simply are not. We were raising record revenue before Joe Biden $80 billion in new money to the IRS," Donalds continued.

Moreover, he said Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen "is having problems of raising more money in capital" and that the American debt obligation is becoming increasingly expensive. As a result, "The prudent thing to do here at home while also supporting our ally Israel [is] you go to some of these nice things Joe Biden says he wanted to do, and you have to carve money out of that."

Varney then asked if this meant Ukraine should not receive any more funding at all, Donalds said securing the border should take priority before any discussion of money going to Ukraine can occur.

"If we are going to spend $60 billion to help the Ukrainians defeat the Russian military, and I want the Ukrainians to defeat the Russian military, we must take care of business at home. If Joe Biden truly thinks that he is going to send $60 billion overseas while our southern border is wide open, he is fooling himself. He needs to get to reality and see where we are at this point in time," Donalds concluded.
