DeSantis' Job Approval Sinks in new Florida Poll

Share

A new Florida Atlantic University poll shows that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ (R) job approval rating is now split in Florida. The poll comes after voters felt Gov. DeSantis strongly performed in the third Republican presidential debate.

Gov. DeSantis is polling second behind President Donald Trump (R), who’s far surpassing the Republican candidates. However, given that both candidates come from Florida, the state appears to largely be throwing its support behind the 45th president.

In July, a majority of Florida voters approved of the job DeSantis was doing as governor, but in the latest FAU poll, the governor’s job approval has significantly dropped four percentage points in four months. Similarly, DeSantis’ support from Independent voters has dropped. 60 percent say that they disapprove of the job DeSantis has done as governor.

However, when those polled were asked about their opinions on the war between Israel and Hamas, 59 percent expressed support with Israel, which DeSantis has strongly supported as both governor and as a presidential candidate.

DeSantis is now scheduled to debate California Governor Gavin Newsom (D), who’s become embroiled in controversy after a cleanup effort in San Francisco. The effort was launched to support the APEC Summit that took place this week wherein Paramount Leader Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden (D) met to discuss the relationship between China and the United States.

Biden further stirred rumors that Newsom could replace him in the presidential race after sharing some remarks in support of the California governor.

At the welcome reception of the APEC Summit, Biden thanked Newsom for his support and his work in California.

“He’s been one hell of a governor, man. Matter of fact, he could do anything he wants. He could have the job I’m looking for,” Biden told the audience.

Newsom has consistently quieted the rumors that he will have anything to do with the upcoming 2024 race.
